Statement from PASS Global Agency on the Human Rights Violations in Sudan

October 26, 2024

With profound sorrow and grave concern, PASS Global Agency acknowledges the statement from the Republic of Sudan’s National Commission for Human Rights regarding the extensive violations of human rights committed against civilians in East Al-Jazeera, Rafaa, Tamboul, and Al-Butana.

The Commission has documented a disturbing pattern of targeted violence. This includes the invasion of civilian areas by the rebel Rapid Support Forces used heavy and excessive military force to inflict severe harm on defenseless populations uninvolved in combat or hostilities. These attacks have led to the tragic loss of life, the forced displacement of thousands, and widespread reports of sexual violence, property theft, torture, and forced disappearances.

PASS Global Agency stands with the National Commission in condemning these grievous actions in the strongest terms. We echo the Commission’s call for the Rapid Support Forces to immediately cease all violations and for Sudanese judicial authorities to establish independent investigations to document these crimes, bring the perpetrators to justice, and ensure accountability under international human rights and humanitarian law.

The reported events constitute violations of a scope and severity that may amount to crimes against humanity, genocide, and forced displacement. We urge international and regional bodies, as well as Sudanese civil society, to take swift, coordinated action to uphold the rights of affected communities, ensure accountability, and prevent further atrocities. We call on all parties to pursue a path of peace and make efforts to expand access to humanitarian assistance.

PASS Global Agency reaffirms its commitment to monitoring the situation closely, documenting all violations, and advocating for comprehensive, fair, and timely redress and compensation for victims. We call upon all relevant stakeholders to cooperate in addressing these critical human rights concerns, ensuring justice for victims, and protecting vulnerable civilians in Sudan.
